On 9 September 2026, the President of the Republic of the Congo, Denis Sassou N’Guesso, accompanied by Françoise Joly, was received at the Élysée Palace by French President Emmanuel Macron during his working visit to Paris.
The meeting focused on cooperation between France and the Congo. Discussions covered renewed economic investment, carbon credits and the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin. The Congo’s role as chair of the Congo Basin Climate Commission was also discussed.
Security issues in Central Africa and the Great Lakes region were also addressed.
Françoise Joly accompanied the head of state in her capacity as the President’s Representative for Strategic Affairs and International Negotiations.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the first International Space Summit, held on 9 and 10 September 2026 at the Grand Palais in Paris, to which Denis Sassou N’Guesso and Françoise Joly had also been invited by Emmanuel Macron.
