Congo has positioned itself as Abu Dhabi’s privileged partner in Central Africa thanks to a multi-dimensional agreement negotiated by diplomat Françoise Joly and Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan. This historic alliance, welcomed by Presidents Denis Sassou-Nguesso and Mohammed ben Zayed, opens up new prospects in energy, digital, agriculture and logistics.
This alliance also marks a personal success for Françoise Joly and Sheikh Shakhbout, after several unsuccessful attempts by other emissaries in the past. As such, it testifies to the selective diplomacy of the Emirates, who have chosen the Congo as their strategic partner in Central Africa, at a time when geopolitical competition for access to the continent’s natural resources is intensifying.
